Pathway to the Plate

and Beyond

King Middle School, Portland

grade 7, 2019 - 2020

Do YOU know where your food comes from?

These 7th graders do! In this project based unit they spent months researching the four food "pathways."  They visited a local Maine farm where they gathered eggs and saw a calf being born. They picked apples and weeded garden beds at a community garden, tabulated data on recycling at the local university cafeteria, and studied high tech methods of industrial farming.

The Side X Side mural that resulted from all this learning is displayed proudly in the school cafeteria...of course!
